I woke up this morning and found that it was drizzling outside, but it seemed to look different from the normal drizzle. As I took a closer look, I realised that it was actually snow flakes and not rain!
Gosh, it looks like it is going to be cold to go out today, but this slight snow is not going to stop me from exploring Ushuaia, promoted as the most southern city of the world (we can even go to the visitor information centre and have a stamp on our passport to prove we have been here! Yay!)
Ushuaia also receives almost 90% of the world’s tourist to Antarctica (Antarctica is about 1,000km away!)
I walked out with 2 layers of clothes (for both the top and bottom) and a jacket and a buff for the neck, and was shown around parts of the city by Federico.
Ushuaia is a very small town, with 1 main street where most of the shops and restaurants are located.
I probably could have survived walking around the city if there was no chill factor from the winds. It got even colder as we walked along the port / coast area while enquiring about the boat tours available and taking some pictures of the lake and snow capped mountains.
My hands were icing up as I walk around town and decided that perhaps it is going to be a good investment to consider buying at least a pair of gloves. This is especially more necessary in El Calafate (my next destination) where I plan to walk on the glacier.
There were many shops which sold gloves, but they were extremely pricey and I was not prepared to be paying more than S$30 for a pair of gloves. I finally found one at ARS69 (about S$20) in an outlet store, and it claimed to be waterproof too. Much thicker than what I hoped for, but it definitely looked like it was going to keep me warm!
I also ended up getting a new pair of shoes, since mine was going to go anytime soon.
I had no intentions of getting a pair of trekking shoes as I didn’t like them too much for the weight and bulkiness, but I managed to find a pair of waterproof light-weight trekking shoes at a fairly affordable price!
And it seems like I will be doing some trekking over the next few months, this pair of trekking shoes should be a good and timely investment!
