It is about a 30 minutes walk along the coast to the entrance of San Ramon Waterfalls, one of the must-do in Ometepe.
The entrance fee costs USD3 or NIO87. From the ticket counter, it is about 3.5km hike to the Waterfalls.
A moderate hike, with a couple of steep climbs nearing the top, it took us about 1.5hrs one way, with great views along the way.
We were one of the last few to be let in, as they turn away people from entering after 2.30pm for safety reasons.
By the time we got to the top, we were starving. Thankfully we had the hindsight of packing a chunky chicken sandwich, courtesy of Finca Mystica, and was a well deserved treat.
The Waterfall is of a height of 50 meters. I was expecting a bigger and deeper pool for swimming in, but it was rather small and somewhat shallow.
Because of the size and shallowness, I hesitated for a long time on swimming. But Chris made a good point and I was glad he convinced me to go in. After all, we had climbed all the way up and had a good lunch and should end it with a nice dip to freshen ourselves.
He was right. It was refreshingly cold but just what we needed after sweating from the climb.
It was about 3.30pm when we decided to make our way down and was the last ones to exit.
On the way out, we came across some howler monkeys, something which I had been meaning to see for sometime.
As well as good sunset views on the walk back to Finca Mystica.
We were exhausted and was glad to be back at Finca Mystica just as dark had fallen.
Definitely worth doing!
