Before leaving Skantzoura, we took the motorised dinghy round the corner to do some snorkelling. Alberto had other plans on his mind! While we were happily snorkelling, Alberto was filling a big plastic bag full of sea-urchins!
We headed back to “Gaia” and made our way to Skiathos, an island near Alonnisos, where Bianca will be leaving us the next day.
While making our way, Alberto cut open the sea-urchins while we dug out with caution (don’t want to be pricked!) the edible areas into a cup, for cooking with spaghetti for lunch. We left some to be consumed raw along with some wine, before Alberto cooked the spaghetti with sea-urchin.
Although I had sea-urchins before in a Japanese restaurant a few years back, I did not enjoy them too much. It was the first time cutting them and eating it fresh, and it was definitely much tastier and yummy! Definitely an experience worth trying for anyone!
We arrived at Skiathos by late evening before proceeding to “Anatoli”, a Greek restaurant for dinner, and it was again good food with good wine! I think I am eating too much! :D
Skiathos is a really bustling island, and even at 11pm after dinner, most of the shops were still open, with lots of activity on the streets. Nice little cobble-stoned pathways on the main shopping street and quaint little houses that just puts you in the holiday mood!
Would have loved to explore the island further, but we were all tired and decided to call it a night. We could still hear some activity going on in the distance till wee hours of the night!
Definitely worth visiting again!
Sea urchins! I have never tried before! :) did you help to get these from the sea too?
ReplyDeleteNot the 1st time, but the 2nd time when we ate it a couple days ago I helped! See Day 18 : Ormas Mersinia, Lesvos for more details :)
