Taking another BlaBlaCar Ride from Luxembourg to Strasbourg, it was yet another interesting experience. Not as culturally diverse as the last ride, I was picked up by a French guy Francois, with another sleepy French BlaBlaCar passenger whom didn’t speak much English.
It was interesting, as Francois had a very nice and spacious vehicle, and during the 3 hour journey, Francois gave great tips on where to go in Strasbourg, and around France.
Arriving into Strasbourg, I realised that it’s a very small town and easily covered within a couple hours. Highlights in Strasbourg includes :
La Petite France – Located in the historic centre, and the most picturesque district of old Strasbourg. Once home to Fishermen, millers and tanners, the traditional half-timbered homes from the 16th and 17th centuries still stand gloriously along the river.
Cathedrale Notre Dame – Built between 1176 and 1439, the interiors are majestic, and also holds a very grand astronomical clock.
The greatest highlight in my opinion is the Cathedral’s142 metre tower, the highest in France with spectacular views from the viewing platform.
Opera du Rhin
Palace of the Rhine
University of Strasbourg
National Theatre of Strasbourg
Cathedral of our Lady
I have the habit of getting a prepaid sim card to tap on mobile data on the go, and after comparing the various prepaid mobile plans in Germany, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Belgium and Spain, Vodafone Germany seems to offer the best value when I was travelling, allowing me to utilise 1GB data across any EU countries for Euro 9.99 on the 1st month.
I was already on a Vodafone SIM but was due to expire in a few days, and it would cost me Euro 15 to renew it for another month.
Having more time on my hands in Strasbourg, I decided to make a trip to nearby town of Kehl in Germany, located an hour away from Strasbourg, and take the opportunity to purchase a new SIM.
Kehl is a much smaller town than Strasbourg, and even less things to see and do, and connected by a bridge over the Rhine River.
I have also confirmed my date for going back to Singapore. Will be flying business class – Woo-hoo! Travelling in class
