Day 143 : Menton

Menton Fete du Citron Festival
My visit in Menton was primarily to attend the Fete du Citron Festival, and had arrived a few hours earlier than the parade timing to visit the exhibition, and also to quickly explore the town.

Menton is very small and easily walkable in a very short time. It also has one of the most beautiful backdrop for a harbour view that I had ever seen!

Despite the short time for exploring the town, I had a good feel for it and like it very much.

The theme for this year's Fete du Citron is Broadway. The exposition is held at the Garden, and contains different exhibit display themed to different Musicals, fully decked out using just citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons, blended in with the florals in the gardens.

Each exhibit is huge and magnificent. The number of citrus fruits used in total is unimaginable! And I cannot even fanthom how many hours it took for the people to put each exhibit together.

Can you tell what musical they are trying to depict in the exhibits below?

Then I attended the Parade at 2.30pm.

Unlike the Carnival in Nice where I bought a standing ticket, I decided to get a seating one this time.  With the standing ticket, it was difficult to get a full overview of each float and I hoped that by getting a seat in the stands, I would get a better view.

Plus, I had walked for a couple hours earlier and could do with the momentary resting of the feet.

I certainly was able to get a better upper view of the parade, but didn't feel as "in the action" when I had the standing tickets. There were also a few acts which also showcased in the night parade in Nice and so there was less surprise factor. The lights at the night parade also made it a lot more impressive.

Some good acts and floats including the one of the big insect with acrobatic dancing on it, and the African dancing and "Cats" mingling with the crowd.

I like the Menton Parade, though in comparison with the one in Nice, I liked the Nice parade better for its lights and novelty.

There is however also a night parade for Menton, but held on a different day, which I wouldn't be able to attend.

Perhaps that would make a bigger difference.
