Taking a VERY long walk from the apartment, I made my way towards Hotel National Des Invalides, as this path allows me to get towards Place de la Concorde and the Louvre.
On the map, it didn’t seem that far away, but it took me about an hour to walk over! I found it a great way to experience the city and seeing the sights.
As I approached the Hotel National Des Invalides building, I noticed quite a bustling scene at the square, and realised they were setting up the area to telecast one of the finals for Master Chef, and outdoors! Having done kitchen equipment sales at one point in my life, it was really interesting to see the setup. My French however was less than possible to facilitate a communication to find out when it was actually happening.
I made my way into the building, towards the Musee De L’armee, which is a musuem of arms and armour, and had a huge square with number of cannons aligning the square.
Next stop, Place de la Concorde. This is the largest square in the French capital, and is situated along the Seine and separates the Tuilerie Gardens from the beginning of the Champs Elysees. In the 19th century the 3200 years old obelisk from the temple of Ramses II at Thebes, now modern day Luxor, was installed at the centre of the Place de la Concorde. It is a 23 meters tall monolith in pink granite and weighs approximately 230 tons.
Walking further along the path led me towards the Jardin des Tuileries before reaching Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, and the Louvre. Although I had walked by Louvre yesterday, this was a completely different route and allowed me to explore the surrounding areas of the Louvre properly.
It was a very cold day, and after a very long walk, I was starving! Came across a Ramen store on one of the streets and decided to pop in to have a nice hot bowl of soup with noodles for lunch. And it was authentic!
After lunch, I met up with Fabien and also caught up with Thierry, a close friend of Fabien (which was how I also got to know Thierry) while in Paris. Although Thierry had spent the last 1 year travelling with some travel in South America, our travel plans never coincided with each other. It was good timing that he was in Paris at that time and that’s when I found out Thierry will be moving to Singapore to find a job. Woo hoo!
