We passed through a town and saw a local market and wanted to see what it looks like. There were lots of shouting by the vendors to get customers attention, and a lot of stores selling clothes that were randomly thrown in piles.
There were also a few 2nd hand product items as well as this store which sells a lot of different phone charging cables and old phones.
We then made our way and pulled to a stop to take a picture of one of over 173,000 bunkers found all over Albania.
There were a lot of farm life on the roads today.
One of the main highlights of the drive today is driving along River Vjosë.
River Vjosë is the last living wild river in Europe. Along its entire course of over 270 kilometers it is untamed and free flowing and characterized by beautiful canyons, braided river sections, islands, oxbows and meandering stretches.
The views along the way with the river and mountains in the backdrop was really picturesque.
We also crossed a number of bridges, as well as saw a few bridges which I nicknamed the Indiana Jones Bridge.
Midway on our drive, we did something no one else would do...Stop in the middle of the highway and have a small picnic with leftover food and wine from yesterday, while enjoying the view 😂
About an hour later, we made a proper lunch stop with a fantastic view from the terrace. We ordered the speciality, fried River Fish, as well as a portion of grilled chicken wings. The chicken wings were one of the best I've had in a while!
And then we continued our way - just 30 mins away was the thermal springs (Llixhat e Bënjës) in the middle of nowhere and the famous Stone Bridge (Kadiut Bridge). Totally unexpected to find a place like this in the middle of nowhere.
We met this German guy who is a carpenter. For the 1st time I heard there it is a tradition in Germany for carpenters to be travelling for 3 years in vagabond style. He was showing his flag of the tradesman in this picture.
They will carry a twisted Stick/pole with them and wear a uniform everyday of their travels and pick up jobs or learns skills along the way in their travels.
Together with an Argentinian girl he met on the travels, they are making their way towards Asia with plans to go to Mongolia, buy a horse and ride across Mongolia and then maybe make his way towards Australia.
We arrived at our accomodation Eagle House just before 4pm. A huge apartment with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and an amazing view for just Euro 23.
There isn't much to see in the city, other than to climb the City Stone - a huge rock measuring 15m wide, 25m tall, with a diameter of about 30m, and a great view from the top.
We ended the night with dinner at Hani Kikes Restaurant Bar and ordered some very local Albanian dishes - antipasti mixed platter, Veal soup and qofte.
