St. Naum Day Trip from Ohrid

Took a day trip to St. Naum, the southern most point of the lake on the Macedonia side. The buses doesn't run very regularly, so I took the earliest one which starts at 8.20am and caught it off the main road.

The trip was faster than I expected as there were hardly much traffic on the road and reached St. Naum about 9am.

The Monastery of Saint Naum is an Eastern Orthodox monastery in North Macedonia, named after the medieval Saint Naum who founded it.

The views from here were amazing. The main church wasn't open to view the inside but I would probably also not had gone in as it was chargeable (just only less than €2, but I've come to the point that I would not pay to enter churches anymore since I've been into so many of them).

There were also peacocks here - I counted about 6 of them. I didn't see any peahens though.

I had originally toyed with the idea of visiting it only tomorrow when I am about to cross the border but decided to do it today, so that I can move about easily without any worry about luggage and that was a great decision, as that allowed me to better explore the area better.

Also, it allowed me to figure out the path to get to the border, because using Google maps, it would had brought me to the army base, which would not allow me to cut through to the border and I would had to walk even longer.

There's also a spring here - this is where all the water in Lake Ohrid comes from. The water was really clear.

Around the spring are 3 other churches, there is the option to take a boat ride which doesn't seem to be running while I was there, but I chose to walk, starting with St. Petka, just down the path from St. Naum

And then to Holy Mother of God which required walking through the woods. I heard rustling in the trees and leaves a few times and had a fear that some wild animal may come charging at me, so I did walk a little faster around here.

The path to the next church St. Athanasius was through some grounds covered with frost, as well as a view of the other end of the springs.

I then took the road out, which one end would lead to the border, and the other would be the road back to Ohrid city centre. It was only about 10.30am when I was done with my visit with St. Naum, but the next bus would only come at 12.10pm.

I wasn't keen on waiting, and so started walking towards Bay of Bones where I wanted to visit the Musuem on Water

I was hoping to hitch hike over - there were a number of cars going in, but hardly any going out. I did see 3 ATVs and 1 car which was full.

And then a car drove past which signalled that they were full and can't pick me up. By this time I had already walked for over an hour.

But 5 mins later, the same car had turned around and asked me to hop in. There was a baby and another lady on the back, and the driver and a passenger on the front. They even offered me water and chocolates... I was so touched.

They also stopped at Bay of Bones, though I wasn't sure if they were stopping to get a short break or was waiting for me. But I didn't want to trouble them again, so I waited for them to go before I left.

I didn't bother to enter the Musuem as I read reviews there weren't much to see on the inside and just took pictures from the outside.

I was hoping to catch the bus back but I didn't see it and so tried hitch hiking again, this time with much faster success, and got back into the city centre in about 10 mins.

Just in time for lunch!

I left Stefano's house at 7.45am to catch the 8.07am train to the airport, which later required switching to an airport shuttle from T2 ...
