Thierry had to go run some errands in the morning, and so he dropped me off at the town of Bayonne, and will meet me later when he was done.
The town centre in Bayonne is classed as one of the protected French Historic Towns. Most of the old town is pedestrian only, and it was so lovely walking through the different streets and enjoying the cute buildings lining the narrow streets.
As with any cities, there is a main cathedral that is worth visiting.
There is also Chateau Vieux, which I didn't visit. Apparently this is where the governors of the city are once based, but now is the property of the army and cannot be visited.
The Botanic Gardens and the Memorial aux Bayonnais, as well as the Leon-Bonnat Garden is worth checking out.
There's also a Market Place here.
I had been really lucky as up to this point, I had no rain whatsoever.
And then Thierry came to meet me for lunch and we went to Le Perroquet. It's strange to see a French restaurant serving Asian style meal for their lunch menu of the day, Stewed duck with noodles.
And then it rained. So we decided to pop into Didam Gallery to check out the art work of a famous artist from the area - Michel Haramboure.
By the time we came out, the rain stopped!
We walked a little more including finding this gem gallery at Atelier 53, operated by the artist (Vincent Tessier) behind all the art work. He has a unique method of creating art by painting on newspaper or pages torn of a book or magazine or music scores. Really love his stuff.
And a book store.
