Day 148 : Biarritz

Today's breakfast was this... I almost cried while eating it because it was spicier than I expected. I can hold my spice but this was really spicy.
Spent the morning doing my income tax return and some administrative work before heading out in the afternoon to explore Biarritz.

It's a nice day out, but a little chilly at about 7°C.

Someone has made words in the sand - La Grande Plage Biarritz.

This beach is empty now, but I was told during summer it gets so packed, you can't even find a space to put your towel on the sand!

Came across Hôtel Du Palais Biarritz. This palace was built by Napoleon III as a token of love for Empress Eugénie. It's now a hotel, which is currently under renovation.

The building is shaped in a letter E, the initial of the Empress name.

We then headed towards Rocher de la Vierge - a viewpoint with a small statue of Virgin Mary on top of the rock.

A good view of Villa Belza (looks like a Palace from a distance) can be seen here. There are a lot of different houses and buildings which look like a palace or castle or a villa of some sort in Biarritz.

Here's another one, though I don't know the name of the building or if it's a house.

Next to Rocher de la Vierge is a little beach, where kids were doing a lifeguard training course.

It must be freaking cold for the kids to be out in the water!

Also saw this guy walking backwards on a tight rope. It is already difficult walking forward on that. Walking backwards must be more challenging.

We walked a little further down towards Plage de la Côte des Basques, where we saw surfers in the water, before turning back towards the city centre, stopping by Sainte-Eugénie Church of Biarritz along the way.

The church is named after the Empress and there's a boat hanging in the centre of the church.

We made our way to the lighthouse, where we had a fantastic panoramic view of La Grande Plage.

We then drove towards Anglet and picked up a Gáteau Basque from Thierry Bamas. It was said this shop have won the top awards. Indeed it was really nice.

The same pastry shop had these really cute chocolate shaped animals, probably in preparation for Easter which is around the corner.

I made Chicken Tikka Masala tonight... 3 of us almost finished the portion that was meant for 5 people! Thierry had 3 helpings! 😂

That's probably the best gratitude any chef can have.

Day 169 - 170 : Flight back to Singapore

I left Stefano's house at 7.45am to catch the 8.07am train to the airport, which later required switching to an airport shuttle from T2 ...
