Day 154 : Flying Business Class on Singapore Airlines

This is my first time flying Business Class on Singapore Airlines and I was tremendously looking forward to the flight.

Travelling in style had been my way of travel on the return leg of the long haul flights of my 5 month travel, following my Business Class experience on Lufthansa 1+ month earlier.

It was fairly empty in the Business Class section of Singapore Airlines from Barcelona to Singapore

Business Class on Singapore Airlines

I recalled that it used to be a direct flight when I took the same route 5 years back, but now there is a stopover in Malpensa, Italy Airport.  At least I am on Business Class this time round, so the additional 1+ hour didn’t really bother me.

Barcelona Airport

My experience on the flight – definitely better than Economy Class, though I had expected a lot more than what I had experienced during my flight on Business Class.

First the seats :

Spacious Business Class SeatsLuxurious and spacious comfy chairs.  However, to extend the seat flat into a sleeping position was cumbersome (unlike the single push button I had on Lufthansa).

I had to first remove a cushion from the back support and needed one of the staff to assist me to get it fully flat.

Which also meant that it was not so easy for me to get it back up again if I wanted to, and again needed assistance.  It felt like a very old fashioned way of set up.

Once it was fully down, the sleeping space was restricted with the way the seat was placed.  As you can see from the picture below, I am rather cramped and awkwardly laid down.  And I was lying angled, rather than straight.

I was hoping to sleep through more of the flight (I slept through 80% of the flight on Lufthansa Mexico – Frankfurt), but ended up sleeping only maybe an hour on SQ?  In the end, I watched about 5 movies throughout the entire flight.

The good thing is that there were a lot of areas for one to place their belongings around the seat for easy access.

TV Display and Selection

TV screen could had been bigger, considering that it was Business Class.  The ability to adjust the screen positioning (tilt up or down, left and right with more flexibility) could also be much more improved.  As once I was lying down, the TV angle was a little high and image wasn’t so clear in that angle.

Movie selections is slightly more than Economy.

Meals

Similar to Lufthansa, there was personalised service for meals.

Singapore Airlines also had a printed menu for each passenger (also given to Economy Class), which one can refer to, so compared to Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines is better on this area.

There were a number of menu selections to choose from, and they all looked really interesting.

I was tired of having western food, so most of the options I chose were more towards the Asian selections.

I will give 5 out of 5 for presentation.  Taste, 3.5 out of 5.

Breakfast : Ham and Cheese Sandwich.  Basic and decent.

Salad – Prosciutto with Prawns
