Bocas is located about 20 mins by speedboat from the town of
Almirante. It is interesting to see 3 different speedboat companies offering competitively different pricing for the trip to the island.

One was at USD3, another at USD4 and the last at USD5, with a half price on Wednesdays (
USD2.50), yet all departs from the same place and arrives on the same island (
Isla Colon in Bocas)
Bocas is made up of a number of islands, and we stayed in
Isla Colon, characterised by a number of hotels and houses built along the water.
Niklaus who was last here about 10 years ago, said the island had changed alot since that time, and he preferred the unspoilt beauty of the island when he first came.

We spent a few days here on
Isla Colon, soaking in the sleepy town atmosphere and visiting the various islands with one of the tour operators (
all the boat tours does exactly the same 3 options available and usually for similar prices).
The tour we took up included dolphin watching (
I pity the dolphins as their territory is invaded by at least 5 speed boats on a daily basis to entertain tourist like myself!), visiting
Red Frog Island (
named originated from the tiny frogs brightly red in colour that can be found on the island) and
Coral Ray (
where one can view rich marine life and have lunch at a restaurant which offered lobsters as an option).
