Still recovering from my stomach infection, I spent the first few days staying indoors. I could hardly eat and my diet was made up of just a couple fruits the entire day.
Even the smell of food made me feel like puking. No fun being sick on a trip
Thankfully I started showing signs of getting better yesterday, partially helped by herbal drinks, which Emilio and his brother Barry made for me when I first arrived at their house.
It’s a good thing I had covered a number of the key sights on my earlier stays in Mexico city, and only had a couple more “to-do’s” on my list.
One of them was the Parliament building. It's highly recommended to visit when in Mexico, and best of all, it is also free.
A passport is needed to get access into the building, a huge compound where one can freely roam about in most sections, and the must-see are the Diego Riviera murals that decorate the walls and ceiling of one of the buildings.
At Barry's suggestion, I also went to Antigua Colegio de San Ildefonso, another building around Zocalo, famed for its murals.
These weren't by Diego Riviera, but by different artists and were also interesting to see.
The building also functions as a gallery, with changing displays depending on what's on show. There is a charge to enter, with free admissions on Tuesdays.
I also managed to squeeze in a visit to Museo Soumaya, a very futuristic building, containing numerous art pieces belonging to a private collector, spread over 5 different floors.
Some are rather weird, but there are also a number of good art pieces worth seeing. Entrance is free.
The only thing I didn't get to visit before leaving Mexico, was Xochimilco.
I have to leave something to do, so that I can come back to Mexico again!
