Day 9 : Stargazing at Kyra Panagia

I just spent the last hour lying on the deck of “Gaia” stargazing after a refreshing shower, enjoying a cup of hot camomile tea and soaking in the night breeze while drying my hair (talk about multi-tasking!).

As the island was not inhabited, there were no other lights around, except from 3 other boats in the bay at a distance, which made it perfect for stargazing.

It certainly brought a sense of peace and tranquillity that is always felt while stargazing, and even more on this occasion as the sky rotated around me as I laid on the deck, allowing a different angle of the sky and constellations to be seen at each little turn “Gaia” makes with the changing winds and currents.

I decided to call it a night half an hour ago as it started getting chilly and when the moon (colour of a salted egg yolk!) decided to creep out from the slopes of Kyra Panagia, brightening the night sky with its little light.

Yes, we are back at Kyra Panagia again, this time on a different side of the bay facing the open channel.  This is the 1st stop of our long journey ahead, as we try to make headway towards north of Aegean Sea to reach Port Panagias at Sithonia (One of the three fingers at Halkidiki, other 2 being Kassandra and Mt. Athos) by the 21st to pick up 2 other crew members from Finland to join us on our sailing journey.

Before I head off to bed, something interesting to share which happened this morning before we left Skiathos

After we bought our groceries for the long trip ahead, we decided to take a drink at a cafe just before Bianca heads for the airport. We ordered a few drinks (2 coffees, 1 lemonade, 1 bottle of water), and bought some pastry from the near by bakery as it was 10.30am and the cafe was not ready to be serving food.

When we called for our bill, the staff came to our table and said :

“The bill is… NOTHING!”

We looked at him, and thinking he was joking, we asked “Why”?

“Because it’s my birthday”

And then he walked away to the shop next to his and started chatting with someone in that shop.

Still thinking he was joking, we sat at the table for a while and looked at him, whom later turned back to us and just waved at us goodbye.  So we stood up and walked past him and said “Thank you”, and after we had walked off, we spoke to each other and said that this will never happen in Italy or Singapore!

Now I know why Greece is in crisis! But it sure made our day! Open-mouthed smile

Good night!
