Leon is the second largest city in Nicaragua, after the capital Managua.
A colonial city, with very bustling streets during both day and night, the city is very "local", defined mostly by shops that are catered mostly to people staying in Nicaragua and street food (very little international touristy restaurants).
It's a very small city, so walking the streets could be done within half a day, and visiting some of the numerous churches in the city.
However, being in Leon for me was more about doing the various activities available near Leon.
Activities that I did in Leon, ranked from most to least favourite is below, (though all are worth going) :
- Volcano Boarding
- Flor de Cana Rum Tour
- Cock fighting
- Telica sunset tour (may had gone up in rankings a lot more, if I had seen lava)
Certainly worth staying 2 - 3 nights in Leon.
