I had signed up for a Canopy tour today with Xtremo tours, which includes
- 16 Cables
- 1 Jane (Tarzan) Swing
- 1 Rappel
- 1 Supergirl (Superman)
- 1 Subterranean Supergirl (Superman)
My last Zip lining experience was about 5 years ago in Panama and I had great fun.
This upped the notch in so many ways, with longer and more zip lines. The longest at 3,380 feet and over 500 feet above ground. Very often we could see the tree tops beneath us as we ziplined across the cables, or zipping through small paths among the trees.
There was also the Supergirl (Superman) style ziplinig. It was different from the normal zipline as we were suspended horizontally and sped from one end to the other end of the cable aerodynamically like Supergirl (or superman), high up in the sky with great views of the forest and valley. Unfortunately my camera stopped recording halfway while I was doing it.
And my personal favourite, Jane (Tarzan) Swing - imagine swinging from a platform high up in the trees like a pendulum. It was the first time I had done this. As I stood at the edge of the platform while the staff got me strapped up, I felt some jitters building up.
Without much warning, I was suddenly pushed out. "Aaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!", I screamed at the top of my lungs as the push caught me by surprise.
A second later after I swung out, the rope stretched to its max and had a small jolt. Being caught by surprise again, I let out another scream! I am such a girl!
The scariest parts were over as I spent the next few seconds swinging back and forth like a pendulum, almost touching branches and trees, and suspended only by a cable.
After a few swings, the staff on a bottom platform caught hold of me and pulled me back to ground.
It was exhilarating fun!
The whole Canopy tour ended off with a Subterranean Superman. It is called subterranean as we zipped through a tunnel, again horizontally like Superman.
Total distance on the Canopy tour was 4km, and took us about 2 hours to complete the circuit.
To end off the day, I met up with Vince, Liam and Sue (folks I met while waiting at the bus stop to Monteverde), for a nice Christmas dinner at a restaurant called "Treetops", a restaurant literally built on the tree.
It was a double celebration as it was also Liam's birthday.
The steak was tender and really good. Accompanied by 2 glasses of red wine and great company on a special day, the meal was made even better.
Beats spending it alone, which was what I had imagined it to be before arriving into Monteverde.
My Christmas damage :
- Dinner : USD46
- Canopy Tour : USD50
