I quickly got ready as I was keen to catch the 10am boat that goes to the islet in the middle of the lake.
It was really foggy as I walked towards the lake. I could hardly see the mountains. Although temperature is still low, it wasn't that cold as there wasn't much wind.
The boat ride costs €2 one way and takes about 15 mins to get to the island. I was told l there are no cars on the island and it was easily walkable.
It was certainly easily walkable, though I was really surprised when I saw a couple of cars on the island. Not sure how it got there.
There are some residents on the island, with houses mostly made out of stones.
There were also a number of churches on the island, though most of them were closed, with the exception of Church of the Koimesis (Dormition) of Mary.
What I really enjoyed most was the coastal walk - it was so serene, especially with a very calm lake with the mountains view.
I hardly saw anyone else walking around the area, other than the occasional fishing boat which made for great pics.
I definitely spent more time here than planned, taking the 12.30pm ferry back.
Funnily, I was the only person on the boat on the way out.
These ducks were following me around while I was waiting for the boat.
Arriving back on land at 12.45pm, I made my way towards the Ali Pasha Mosque as I couldn't seem to find the entrance yesterday.
This is now the Municipal Museum of Ioannina, though thankfully we were still able to walk around the exterior of the building without having to pay for entry.
I can even see the buildings I was at in the fortress from here
I tried to lift one of the numerous cannon balls here, and it was so heavy I couldn't lift them.
I did another quick walk around the lake before heading back to the hostel at 2pm, stopping by a Gyros store to grab some lunch as takeaway to be eaten at the hostel.
This is my cheapest meal in Greece since arriving - I ordered a Pita Pork Gyros which costs €2.70 and decided to also order a Chicken Souvlaki since it only cost €1.50. Again lots of fries were thrown in with the meal.
My bus to Kalampaka is at 3.30pm, so I left the hostel at 3pm and made the 15 mins walk to the bus station.
There were a lot of people at the station, and the bus was more packed than I expected. I suppose it's a Friday and students are probably heading home for the weekend.
The bus ride took 2hrs.
The hostel Meteora Central Hostel is a friend of Gianna of Backpackers & Travellers in Ioannina, as Gianna's hometown is apparently Meteora.
Again I had a hostel room all to myself! Loving this! I can also see one of the monasteries from the hostel.
Stella, the lady that runs Meteora Central Hostel is amazingly nice - she gave me a good rundown of how to see the monasteries on my own (instead of using a tour) and provided some information of the area.
It's a very small town, so not too much happening around here.
After walking the main street I went to grab dinner at The Diner - decided to be less sinful by requesting for the fries to be replaced with salad!
Burger was yummy, with double patties, cheese, bacon, tomato and lettuce.
