Day 88 & 89 : Mendoza

The weather has started to change today, with cloudy skies and cold winds.  Looks like it is going to rain!  Guessed it was good timing that I managed to visit the vineyards with great sunny weather, and leaving just before the weather may get worse!

Mendoza seems to be a base destination for people to branch out to either enjoy the wine tours, or adventure sports such as white water rafting, rapelling, sky diving, skiing or trekking the nearby peaks (Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in Americas at 6,962m is located near here) and other outdoor activities, rather than spend much time within this city.  It is also a main stop for getting into Chile.

It is a fairly big city with a lot of shops, though not much sights in the city for visiting.  The main publicised sights is probably Plaza Independencia and the 4 surrounding squares (Plaza San Martin, Plaza Chile, Plaza España, Plaza Italy) in equidistance from Plaza Independencia, all located in the city centre.

However the squares were a little disappointing, as they were not very well maintained and I realised that they only run the fountains at night.  There are artisans who will display their crafts around Plaza Independencia some of which are really nice!  I almost bought a necklace from there, but when I returned in the evening hoping to buy the necklace, as the store was no longer there.  Too bad for the seller!

Town Council BuildingThe rooftop of the Town Council building, is a good place to get a 360 degree view of the city, and the access is free.  Got to see some snow capped mountains from here in a distance!
