Seems like I am going on an Asian food tasting in Peru! Percy highly recommended that I try out one of his favourite Chifa place for dinner.
Chifa is the common term used in Peru (and also in Bolivia it seems) to describe a place which cooks Chinese food.
So I left the decision of ordering to Percy, since the menu was in Spanish, and also because he has tried most of the food and could recommend better.
Our final order comprised of a plate of fried noodles (Tallarin con Pollo en Trozos) as well as one of the house specialty which was chicken rolls with vegetable inside (Enrollado Fun King).
Percy also ordered a jug of drink, which was made out of the juice extract of purple corn (but fermented) with fruits. This tasted just like Sangria! Yummy!
When the food finally came, the portions was huge! We even had enough to take away 1 portion in a doggy bag!
The noodles definitely tasted rather Cantonese, while the chicken rolls seemed more like a fusion version of Chinese food. Definitely yummy though.
Percy shared that a huge influx of Chinese population came to Peru about 100 years ago, and although there isn’t that many pure Chinese descendants in Peru anymore, Chinese food is rather popular here in Peru, and often cooked by local Peruvian chef with a local flavour.
If all the Chinese restaurant standards are this good, it is definitely a good option for meal over the next couple of weeks, if I get bored with the local food!
