Finding accommodation online outside of the main cities of Fes and Marrakesh was challenging, and it was even more challenging when there were no internet access in the places I had been over the last few days. Not wanting to be caught in a homeless situation, I flipped through the travel guide at Hotel Marmar and took down the address of a hotel in Agadir (Hotel Tiznine) which looked decently priced, before catching a taxi to the bus station to catch the bus to Agadir. And I was right, I had been ripped off by the taxi driver yesterday, as the taxi back to the train station only cost 4 Dirhams!
It was a 7 hour journey, and the view along the way although was rather barren, there were some impressive landscapes. There was also a really beautiful sunset as we approached the city of Agadir.
I had a chat with one of the lady (Maya) on the bus who could speak very good English. Maya asked where I was staying and I showed her the address of Hotel Tiznine. As she was going towards that area, she suggested that I share the same cab with her as it could be dangerous taking a cab on my own in the night and that the people around the bus terminal could be quite dishonest.
I thanked Maya for her generosity and as we reached my accommodation, she gave me her telephone number and asked that I reached out to her if I encountered any problems.
I checked into the hotel, which provided basic, but very clean accommodation, and headed out to look for dinner. The hotel staff had suggested a couple of nice areas for dinner, and I walked towards the main food square.
For the 1st time after a week in Morocco, this is the first time I felt relaxed as I was not being hassled by the store keepers. The prices were also all listed and give the feel of an orderly city, unlike the earlier cities I had been to.
People were all cordial and give you personal space. Most of the restaurants were offering similar set dinners at very reasonable prices, and I soon settled into one and ordered a shrimp dish for my main course. The portions were huge and food were really tasty!
After dinner, and before heading back to the hotel to sleep, I stopped by at an internet cafe to check my emails. I was shown my computer terminal, and when I looked at the keyboard, I was shocked! Check it out!!!
It definitely took me longer than expected to reply all my outstanding emails, as the keyboard was based on the French system which meant different key layout from the US keyboard. It got frustrating at times as I kept hitting the wrong alphabet, though was glad that I had the chance to finally clear my emails, as well as do some research on what can be done in Agadir.
After a long trip on the road, time to head to bed!
