Enroute to Oualidia

I got in touch with Aziz, a friend whom I was staying with in Oualidia.  He suggested that we take a bus to Safi instead, a town next to Oualidia, as he will be going towards Safi that afternoon with another friend, and will be able to travel together to Oualidia from Safi

Carmen and I arrived much earlier in Safi than expected, so we found a place near the bus station and had an enjoyable conversation over a meal.  Both of us had similar impressions of Morocco – from the locals and the behaviour and their concept of time.  We also exchanged a number of funny stories, based on our encounters we had so far in the country, and it was interesting to finally hear a female’s encounter and impression.

After a couple of hours of wait, Aziz finally arrived with Hissham, a seafood seller who had came through Safi to deliver some seafood.  We hopped into Hissham’s vehicle, and both Aziz and Hissham gave us a quick tour of Safi.  As it was close to sunset, we stayed around to catch the sunset before heading towards Oualidia

Carmen comfortable in living roomThe drive to Oualidia was a crazy one, as the music was blasting in the vehicle and Hissham was driving crazily on the roads by singing and clapping to the music and driving in a slightly windy manner. We were so glad to reach Oualidia safely by 8.30pm.

Aziz lives in a really modern apartment, with huge space.  We placed our things in the living area and settled down, as it was also going to be Carmen and my living space for the next few nights.

Since we have not had dinner, Hissham whipped up a meal in Aziz’s apartment, comprising of huge pasta portions and a salad, a very late dinner (at about 11pm) before calling it a night.

Aziz and Hissham are such amazingly funny people.  I have a feeling it’s going to be real fun the next few days!
