Day 128 : Lagos Centre

I was considering if I should rent the motorbike for 1 more day, especially since it is just €10 for the additional, but the weather forecast doesn't seem good. Plus after staying in Lagos for 3 nights already, I haven't really got to see the town. So off I went to return the bike!

As my first time riding in Europe, it's been pleasant.

There are hardly much traffic lights in the places I have driven through in the Algarve, but a lot of roundabouts, one almost every couple hundred metres. Most of the roads are generally one lane traffic on each side.

Based on my experience, drivers in Portugal are very mindful of bikers and have good road manners. Strangely, I hardly see much motorbikes on the road.

Google maps have worked pretty well too!

Although it was forecasted to be a wet day, it was sunny for most of the time, albeit a little more cold than the last few days, and with some passing showers which barely lasted 5 to 10 mins.

I've been meaning to check out Praia de São Roque beach, as I have seen it in the distance from Lagos Old Town and it looked really nice. It took 15 mins to walk towards the beach, going past the marina on the way, as well as some rundown buildings.

And the beach was amazing! It was super long and with a very wide sandy area, that was nice and soft to walk on.
A lot of seashells here too!

I chose a spot and sat down to enjoy the sound of waves crashing onto the shore.

Although I had my swimsuit on, I did try dipping my feet in the water which still felt OK, but would likely be too cold if I was to plunge my whole body in, and then having to deal with the cold winds when I get out of the water.

I stayed by the beach for over an hour and decided to head off when I saw dark looming clouds brewing in the distance.

A right call to make, because about 10 mins later it drizzled, although it didn't last for more than 15 mins.

Lagos Old Town turned out to be much bigger than I expected, as I kept finding new squares around. Lots of quaint little streets which had been beautifully laid out with patterned mosaic tiles.

Walked past a sushi restaurant that had a free flow buffet and decided to give it a go. The sushi wasn't as good as the ones in Madeirã, nor was it as nicely displayed, but for the price of €11.90, it was decent.

I don't know how they are able to make money out of it! The staff came out and talked to me in Mandarin. Appears they have come from Hebei, and the "chef" had been on Portugal for over 15 years. I am very certain I had a slightly better treatment than normal too because I spoke Mandarin.

Feeling super stuffed from lunch, I went shopping and stepped into Natura clothing store and ended up buying 3 items.
Funny thing was I went in and tried on a cardigan in the open, and I loved it enough to hold on to 1 piece. Another person saw me put it on and tried a similar piece and decided to take it for herself too. And a couple mins later, the staff had to undress the last piece on display on a mannequin, because another lady had asked for the same piece.

I was the last to pay as I was still browsing through the shop and went into the changing room to try a couple more items. When I went to pay, I commented to the staff that this must be the fastest they have sold off an item. The staff actually said the 3 pieces had been on the shelf for the last 2-3 weeks and no one bought it until today. Anyone wants to hire me as a clothes ambassador? 😂

I did get a 20% off on my purchase too, but because they were already running a promo for tourists if 3 items are purchased.

I had to do some trip planning for the next couple weeks so stayed in for a while before heading to the coast and see if I may be able to catch the sunset.

It was too cloudy for sunset, but I found these wordings on the ground at Praia Do Pinhão. A lot of effort had gone into it, as I saw 3 people even continuing to decorate it with seashells and only left when it was dark.

I was still super full from lunch, so had a small croissant and decided to call it a night.
