Day 134 : Vigo

I arrived into Vigo yesterday at 6.15pm, losing 1 hour as we drove through from Portugal into Spain, since Spain is 1 hour ahead of Portugal.

The Flixbus station is about a 20 mins walk to the Hotel Casablanca, where I had made a reservation on their website for a room, and according to the price on their website, it was listed as €25 per night for single during low season. I had even called to confirm the day before and they just told me to come in.

So I was very surprised when they said that the room cost is €40/night. I was appalled by how they refused to honour the price listed on their website. Refusing to pay the increase in prices, I made a last minute booking on Agoda for another hotel (Ancla Dorada) just few minutes walk away, which costs me €29/night.

This may be an even better hotel as there is also a balcony to the room, and the staff could speak English!
I was also allowed to leave my luggage in the room till 4pm, as their reception desk isn't open between the hours of 2pm and 5pm, and my train only leaves at 4.35pm from the Vigo Urzáiz station located just less than 10 mins walk away.

Vigo being located by the sea boasts an incredible view from Castelo do Castro, the 1st spot I climbed to during the day.
A fortress from olden times, it is apparently one of many fortresses in the area, with more located on the opposite side of the sea.
The city is quite dead on a Sunday as it appears most shops are closed. It was however rather bustling when I walked through last night.
One of the things one must do when in Spain is to have their Iberico Ham, and that was my very first meal in Spain, as I walked through the city centre yesterday and came across this shop that was selling sandwiches.
The town is supposed to also be famous for a street (Rúa Pescadería) filled with vendors selling oysters, but when I walked through it, it seemed too commercialised and not really that reasonable in price.
There's also supposedly a street filled with beautiful buildings but as the street appears to be under heavy renovation, I didn't really spend too much time exploring it.
And so half a day went by very quickly and it's time to head off to the train station to take a train over to Santiago

Probably the best option available since the station is just a few mins walk away (vs a 25 mins walk to the bus station). It also only takes 50mins by train vs 1hr 40 mins by bus, although it cost a few Euro more than bus.

Day 169 - 170 : Flight back to Singapore

I left Stefano's house at 7.45am to catch the 8.07am train to the airport, which later required switching to an airport shuttle from T2 ...
