Day 184 & 185 : Villa de Leyva

Villa de Leyva is located about 3.5 hours bus ride from Bogota.  I had not heard of this place until a few days ago when I realised I am going to be stuck in Bogota much longer than I had hoped for.  It was recommended by Robin, his brothers, as well as a couple of his friends, and said to have one of the larger squares in Colombia.

Villa de Leyva definitely has a nice laidback and touristy feel to the place.  It was filled with rocky paths (definitely not good for the wheels on my luggage!) and having arrived there without first sourcing for a hostel, I had some problems with locating one and headed into an internet cafe to find some options.  I finally settled in Hostel Rana, a pleasant cottage like hostel, and ended up having an 8-bed dorm room all to myself for the 2 nights I was there.

Villa de Leyva has some interesting activities.  Other than Parque Iguaque and the thermals, there are also a few nice nature walks (of much shorter duration than Parque Iguaque), and also apparently a spot where one can see the remains of dinosaurs which once roamed the area.

Things are slightly more expensive here though, since it usually caters for the weekend crowd from Bogota that comes to visit for a short weekend getaway.  Had some of the best juices here, which I subsequently made it a point to visit each day I was in Villa de Leyva to get my daily juice fix!
