Day 188 : Santa Marta

Got into Santa Marta early this morning at about 9am, and went straight to the hostel.  As usual I had not really booked anything, and tried my luck by heading straight to the hostel.

Upon arrival, they mentioned that they couldn't confirm anything until about 12 noon - it is currently the high season, and that they have some tentative bookings, and will reconfirm with them before letting me know.

After a couple of hours wait, I finally got a bed in a 10-bed dorm.

Due to the high season, prices of the hostel seem much more inflated than what was posted on the website though, and this is probably the most expensive hostel I have stayed in so far in Colombia - well at least I have access to a swimming pool while I am here!

It was funny however that the hostel staff did not recommend very highly of going into the city centre (hostel is located about 15 minutes bus ride away from the city centre), citing reasons that there isn't much to see.

So after taking a relaxing swim in the pool, I decided that instead of heading into town, I will take a day off to relax, and walked towards the nearby mall to do some grocery shopping (Another good reason was also to escape the stifling heat in Santa Marta, and the late afternoon sun!), as well as to stock up and prepare the food needed for my trip to Tayrona National Park as was told that food in Tayrona is extremely over priced!
