As I sit in bed typing this in Marathoukampou Bay in Samos, I can hear the winds howling loudly outside, and the wood in the boat creaking as it rocks with the waves.
The Meltemi has started, and I finally got to experience it today, as we had amazing winds hitting 32 knots at some points and top speed of 9.9 miles per hour during our sail (Beaufort scale 6).
This is the 1st time
we hardly used the motor on such a long trip, but even with the strong winds, it still took us about 12 hours to reach Samos.
Poseidon probably felt that we needed some refreshing showers along the way, by splashing us with a few waves which soaked us through!
In addition to the loud howling of the wind, loud music is also playing in the background from a bar probably 200m away from our boat. I have noticed that in a number of the coastal towns and ports we have visited lately, the bars played really loud music, often ending really late or should I say early in the morning.
Even before we left Limnia, Chios this morning, I was woken up by music in the background at 5.10am from the bar near the harbour! The music only stopped at about 6.30am when we saw people from the bar leaving, just as we were about to leave Limnia.
They sure open late for a small bar in a tiny port area and I wonder who still stays at the bar at that hour on a weekday!
