Day 49 : Las Arenas Beach and Marina

Headed to the nearby beach (Las Arenas) today, however decided to make a slight detour to visit the America’s Cup Port.  Apparently this is also where the F1 circuit takes place. Looking at the map, the circuit sure looks small!

There were not that many boats at the marina, however, those that were at the marina were extremely big and luxurious!

I came across a House of America’s Cup near the marina, and since it was also free, decided to take a look inside.

It is a pretty small museum to commemorate the 33rd America’s Cup, which was held in Valencia.  But it did had some interesting facts on the history of America’s Cup.

According to one of the write-ups, the first international yacht race took place in 1851 when the “America” beat the Royal Yacht Squadron’s entire fleet in a single race around the Isle of Wight winning the 100 Guinea Cup in the process.  This trophy was subsequently renamed the America’s Cup in honour of the name of the boat that first won it!

Without knowing, I would have thought that it was called “America’s Cup” because the race originated in America! Smile with tongue out

Left a short while later and headed towards the beach.  This is probably the 1st beach I have seen with such a long stretch of Las Arenassand before reaching the sea!

I walked towards the seafront and found hordes of people just lying on the beach or frolicking in the water.

The crowd was just too much for me that I decided that I will skip the beach and head back home instead.

I came back to the same area in the night as I joined Carlos and his flat mates to check out some of the clubs around the area.  The club scene here was just average, however, there was one club which had tons of people dancing to the sounds of salsa, bachata and other Latin music in the open air.

I sneaked across to this club a couple of times as it was really interesting to see the people dance.  At one point, there was a song where everyone just started lining up in 2 rows and dance synchronically.  Amazing vibes!

I was asked to dance by one of the guys on the floor when Bachata music was playing.  Told him I didn’t speak much Spanish and didn’t know Bachata.

He spoke pretty good English to me after that and taught me how to dance, and it was actually really easy!  3 steps left… 3 steps right… and repeat.  That’s probably just the basics without getting into other more complicated moves, but the night at this club gave me some insights of what I might be expecting when I go to South America!
