Date : 27 – 31 August 2011
Highlights :
I was surprised that there were actually not much things to be done in Valencia, considering the size of the city, and I would have left after 2 days, if it wasn’t for the La Tomatina Festival.
There were smaller sights like the Torres de Serano and a couple of cathedrals, but nothing to be wow-ed or impressed about.
Overview :
Valencia, the city where Paella was first created… unfortunately I did not get to eat any Paella that made me impressed. Had one Paella meal on the 1st day I arrived, and was greatly disappointed by the quality. I definitely had better when I was in Madrid!
I have also noticed that the cost of things in this city is very much more expensive as compared to other cities which I have visited. The Paella meal, along with Sangria, came up to Euro 20! I would have been able to eat really good in other cities for this amount.
The other thing I found expensive was the metro (underground train). I had to take the metro on one occasion, and the cost of a single ticket was Euro 2.40! It would typically be half this price in other cities.
Streets were generally rather well-marked, although the maps made available to tourists were rather unclear due to many unmarked roads on the maps, making it challenging to find your way on occasions.
