This is the 1st day I am doing proper sights in Malaga, and it was good to have company from some people I met at the hostel.
As we made our way towards the Alcazaba & Gibralfaro, we passed by Teatro Romano, a theatre built in the Roman style, which was located right in font of the entrance to Alcazaba.
The Alcazaba was the palace of the Muslim rulers of the city since the eleventh century.
It is now an impressive group of buildings, mostly built of limestone, on a slope adapted to the contours of the hill.
The Gibralfaro on the other hand was a huge fortress, offering great views of the city.
While we were making our way from Alcazaba towards Gibralfaro, we came across a lot of cactus along the hill and Stefan mentioned that the “fruits” of the cactus could be eaten.
None of us have ever tried it and as the curiosity got the better of us, Natalia and Stefan decided to pluck a couple of the “fruits” (which we later know from the locals that it is called “Chunbo” in Spanish) to try.
It tasted pretty good actually… I thought it tasted like papaya.
However, in case you are planning to try the same, always recommend to wear gloves when plucking them!
We were pricked by very fine thorns from the Chunbo, and the thorns remained stuck in our fingers for quite a while since they were very hard to remove. Not a good feeling whenever you touch your hands, with sharp pains felt since they were still covered with the fine thorns.
