I decided to make my way to El Saler, a beach recommended to visit by Wikitravel. It is located on the other side of Valencia, and was told by the locals that it is quite far to get to.
Since there wasn’t much more to see in Valencia, I followed Wikitravel’s directions and made my way towards the bus stop (near the train station) to take the bus that will bring me to the El Saler.
While walking towards the train station, I came across a local Pasar Malam! And it was huge, stretching across at least 6 different streets! I got distracted and decided to take a walk to see the vendors’ wares.
Just like a typical Pasar Malam that we find in Asia, the vendors were selling bags, clothes, sunglasses, undergarments, bed sheets, towels, shoes etc. Not too sure about the quality though, but heaps of local people shopping!
While walking through this area, I also noticed a few Chinese markets which seem rather big in size and decided to pop in to have a look. The staff at the counter started greeting me in Chinese, and you can’t imagine the joy I got from hearing those words!
After being in Spain for almost a month and having to struggle with communication in Spanish, or just second guessing what the other person is saying, it was really nice to just walk into a shop and have someone speak to you in a language which you can finally understand and be able to communicate in!
It was also a thrill to finally get to see proper Asian food or food that I am familiar with, and I couldn’t resist buying some familiar items.
I decided that I will come back here again after my swim at the beach to buy some food for dinner tonight!
El Saler
After a couple of hours of distraction, I finally got to El Saler. It is definitely a much nicer beach than Las Arenas, and less crowded.
Had a short siesta on the beach and a couple of dips in the sea water before heading back to the city.
