1st stop into Ecuador, and experience hasn't been all that welcoming!
Firstly, our bus from Mancora to Cuenca somehow departed only 1.5hours after the scheduled time, and so by the time we got into Cuenca, it was already about 10.30pm, and we had not booked a hostel.
Met an Irish traveller (Joseph) at the bus terminal of Mancora, and apparently both of us had taken down the same hostel address in Cuenca to try our luck in finding an accomodation without a booking (guess I am not the only one doing this trick!).
So we headed to the hostel, which seemed totally empty as no lights was on. We rang the bell, and shortly after someone shouted from behind the door, and I asked if there was any room. She said something but I couldn't catch it, and shortly after the lights turned out!
I rang the bell again, and a lady who looked pretty grumpy open the door and said in a rough tone "no room" in Spanish and slammed the door. Very rude!
We subsequently went to 3 other hostels, 2 didn't open the door and 1 hostel said they were full! Very strange for a small town like Cuenca!
We finally got some directions to another hostel and when we arrived to asked for room to stay, she replied only for tonight, though she didn't seem very happy about wanting us to stay in the hostel!
Seems like people don't want to do business around here!
