Downtown Lima is way much much bigger than I expected! Marco and I must have walked for about 4 hours and only covered part of the city!
It is definitely not as clean and modern as San Borja or Surco (where Marco’s place is located), but it does have some beautiful buildings with the Spanish architecture and balconies.
Plaza de Armas
This is the main square in Lima, with key government buildings, the main cathedral, and archbishop’s residence and of course the governor’s office.
There is also an old railway station here, which has since been converted into a library.
Future Developments in Lima
Continuing on yesterday’s talk on the growing Lima, we came across a section near Plaza de Armas showcasing the future planned developments in Lima. Sure a great deal of developments that are planned for the city!
Street Procession
Turns out today is a public holiday (something related to the day of the Virgin Mary), and while walking along the streets, we came across a procession. It was really slow, and it took many people just to lift the statue! Must be really tiring on the pole bearers!
Chinatown
This is the 1st Chinatown in South America that I see which is really crowded, especially with locals! It was extremely full of atmosphere, with a lot of Chifas (Chinese food cooked in a Peruvian style).
For some reason, this horoscope reading store was packed with Peruvians too! The person who was doing the reading was a guy with long hair, and he looked really bogus to me!
Plaza de San Martin
Another square in downtown Lima, and this one was pretty packed with people. Characterised with white washed Spanish architecture buildings all around the square.
