As I arrived at about 6.30am after catching the night bus from the border, I was rather surprise to see quite a bit of activity in the main square in the morning. I think I was lucky that I had chosen a hostel with an extremely centralised location right in the centre of the main square, and for this time of the year, it is extremely beautiful with the Xmas lights up and decor they have fixed up in the square.

There were also a number of street performers and music and dance events happening in the square, as part of the Xmas line-up I suppose.

Streets of Popayan |
Popayan is a small pleasant little town, and said to be one of the oldest cultural town in
Colombia. It is filled with lots of white-washed buildings and a high number of churches.
A couple of good view points around the city, and lots of pleasant walking streets, though there are also some areas which you feel that you would definitely want to avoid being in at night.
Being the first stop in
Colombia, it was a way to ease into the country as I spend the next 1 month travelling across the country. I have heard great reviews about this country from travellers who have travelled through the country and can´t wait to appreciate it for myself!
