Day 162 : Fellow Singaporean Comrades

After 4 days in Quito, I finally found out that there were 2 Singaporeans in Quito!

Fried fish & prawns with rice & potatoes
Singh had contacted me earlier in the morning, and within a couple of hours we met up in the Historico Centro.  Apparently Singh has been in Quito for the last 4 months, and he shared that he is travelling around the world for 10 years (?!?!), of which he is currently on his 2nd year of his travels.  I want his lifestyle!!!

So we walked around the town, and headed for yummy lunch at a local market place (together with Joseph, whom I had bumped into earlier), before heading over to his lovely penthouse apartment with an amazing view of the city that he had rented at a bargain in Quito

Singh is one hilarious character, as we spent the next few hours talking about our travel stories (he has some amazing and funny ones to share), and viewing his travel photos. The most coincidental thing is that after 3.5 hours of meeting each other up, we found out that we both knew Aliang. and that Singh and Aliang had travelled for a while together within South America.  What a small world!

With Singaporean friends!
The other Singaporean, May, who stays in a rented room just below Singh´s floor came back later that evening and we were introduced to each other before heading out for dinner at a Colombian restaurant.

May had only just arrived in Quito earlier this month, with the main purpose to study Spanish.  Her course is for 2 months, and she will subsequently travel around Ecuador for a month before heading to Canada and then to Singapore.  Apparently she has also been travelling for about a year!

I think it must also be my good fortune to have met Singh, as at last minute, I had to move to another place (I had since moved to Alfredo´s place last night as Francisco´s parents arrived into Quito at short notice and needed the room.  Alfredo subsequently told me a few hours ago that he had to go out of town for work at 4.15am the next morning.  This meant I had to leave at the same time, which was not very convenient).  So Singh suggested that I moved into the spare room in his apartment, where the 3 of us spent the rest of the night talking and joking, and eating freshly baked chocolate cookies, courtesy of May.

Today is probably one of the best days I have had in Ecuador, and I wished I had met the 2 of them earlier.  It is a pity I have to leave tomorrow for Otavalo, which will also be my last day in Ecuador before I head into Colombia
