Apparently there are 2 sites here in Quito, fighting for the claim of the ¨
Middle of the World¨ title. They are each located about 240m away from each other, one being much grander and flashier in layout than the other.

Me in the Middle of the World! |

Flashy ¨Mitad del Mundo¨ |
The real ¨
Middle of the World¨ as per confirmed by GPS is the not so flashy one, called
Intinan. The interesting thing about Intinan is that it was right where the Indians say it was (
without the aid of technology back in those days!), whereas the other was built by the French, using all their hi tech gadgets!

A real human being head shrunked! |
The Flashy ¨
Middle of the World¨ had a huge compound, with spaces for live band playing as well as Artesenal shops selling local handicrafts.
In fact, I personally felt it was much better visiting
Intinan as one can gain more insights about the history and culture of various tribes currently existing in
Ecuador (
including a ritual called ¨Shrunken Heads¨, where they shrink the heads of people to the size of a fist!), and also some fun activities, such as balancing an egg on the top of a nail, as well as learning and seeing the Coriolis effect happening right in front of us!
