Aliang and I decided that we will leave Paraty on a 11.30pm bus tonight, so that we can be in Sao Paulo in the morning. It had started raining since late afternoon, and it didn’t look like the rain is going to be stopping anytime soon.
So we packed our bags and got geared up for the wet weather to catch the bus from Matheus’ place to the bus terminal. For the first time I am carrying my backpack on my shoulders (I had been using the wheels over the last 2.5months!), as the road from Matheus place to the main road was not suitable for the wheels and I also needed to protect my bag from getting wet!
I psyched myself up to be prepared for carrying about 24kg (19kg backpack and about 5kg daypack) of weight on my back over the next couple of hours. Aliang tried carrying my bag and exclaimed it was rather heavy and reckoned that it was probably heavier than his… (Oops! I should start offloading some things along the way!)
We walked out in the rain, covered with ponchos towards the main road at 7.30pm to wait for the bus. We were lucky we didn’t wait long for the bus to come and by the time we got to town was about 8pm and spent the next couple of hours at a cafe having dinner and passing time before heading back to the bus terminal to catch our bus to Sao Paulo.
We headed back to the terminal at 11pm and I quickly offloaded my backpack and converted it back to the wheels. I survived the few hours of backpacking, and I am sure my shoulders and back is thanking me greatly for purchasing a convertible backpack!
