Day 69 : Last Day in Rio

Time flies, it is already my last day in Rio before heading towards Paraty tomorrow.

There are still a few more sights in the city which I would have loved to visit – such as the Sugar Loaf Hill.  I have a feeling that I will get the opportunity to visit Rio again, and since it was also a bright and sunny day, I decided that I would give the sights a miss and just relax and absorb the Rio atmosphere.

Spent the first half of the day visiting Feira de Sao Cristovao – a food fair featuring Northeast Brazil food and products, and was accompanied by Pedro.  It was located in a huge compound, which used to be a stadium.  Only 50% of the shops were open when we were there, and we later realised that the shops usually start opening in the later half of the afternoon.  Nevertheless, there were still some interesting finds.

The restaurants at the Feira seems to be overly priced, so we proceeded to grab lunch at Bibi’s – a cafe located in Leblon, which is near Pedro’s place.

Bibi SucosThis place came recommended by many locals in Rio and seems to be a MUST place to go for sandwiches / burgers and juice.

I ordered a juice made from a local fruit (don’t remember fruit name) and a burger.  The juice was really thick and fresh, and as for the burger, I had tried a better and more reasonably priced burger at another juice and burger place (there are tons of such shops in Rio!), and thus felt this place has been over-hyped.

I ended my day by walking along Ipanema beach and headed towards Apoardor to catch the sunset.  Apoardor is a small hill located at the end of Ipanema beach, separating Copacabana and Ipanema.

Many people were at the beach today, a total contrast from the scenes of the beach just 2 days ago, and it is definitely much nicer now than 2 days ago.  Lots of hot bods (especially men!) enjoying the sun and sea, with some playing volleyball and other beach sports.  There was even a group of people trying to balance across a flexi-rope.

ApoardorWhen I got to Apoardor, tons of people were here taking pictures and many of them were finding a good spot to watch the sunset.  It was extremely windy and cold and I was glad I brought my sarong, which was subsequently used to shelter myself from the chilling wind.

What I found interesting watching the sunset here was that when the sun had finally set, you could hear sounds of people clapping and cheering away!
