Day 75 : Locked Out!

“So sorry, I can’t believe I locked you out last night.” Melissa said to me when she stepped into the house at noon, shortly after I had woken up.

She continued “I must have been really tired and went to sleep and I remembered I was dreaming of different bells ringing.  And after a while my actual conscience started processing and I wondered if it was real.  So I walked out and open the door and saw you sitting on the floor”.

To summarise the story, we (Alex, Melissa and Melissa’s friend, Patricia) had gone out clubbing last night, and my friend Alex picked us up from Melissa’s place and headed to Lions Nightclub at about midnight, a club recommended by Patricia where she could get us free entry.

I was asked to impersonate myself as “Carla Brunelli” so as to get the free entry in (I sure don’t look like a “Carla Brunelli” but the important thing was I managed to get in! haha.. ).  After we got in, Melissa asked how was the clubbing scene in Singapore, and I decided to pose the same question to Alex since he had stayed there for 9 months and could give a better perspective from both the Sao Paulo and Singapore clubbing scene, and he said that Singapore is a lot crazier!

Lions Nightclub was a rather posh looking club, with about 3 checkpoints before we got into the actual club.  The indoor section wasn’t too big, but there was also an outdoor section which was packed with people smoking.  Pretty good music and lots of people, especially guys!  It is quite an interesting scene and quite funny watching the number of guys who tried to hit on Melissa!

We must have stayed for about 4 hours and as Alex had to work the next day, he gave me a lift back to Melissa’s place while Melissa took Patricia’s car back.  Alex made a couple of detours to show me the night view of Sao Paulo before heading back to Melissa’s place, and when I got back to Melissa’s apartment and surprisingly found the door locked!

That’s strange.. we had definitely not locked the door before we left as we didn’t want to bring the key out with us and safety wasn’t an issue in the building since there was a security guard at the entrance.  So I guessed Melissa must have returned home.  I rang the doorbell and knocked on the door for about 15 minutes but no one answered.

I thought : “Did Melissa come back and took the key and locked it up?”  To add to that, I did not bring out my phone as the credits has just been used up and so did not have Alex number with me to call for help.

I went down to the security guard house and try to ask in my pathetically little Portuguese if he had seen her leaving the house again.  The security guard tried calling her apartment, but no one answered, and after that I didn’t understand what he said, so I headed back up to her apartment again and tried ringing the bell again.

Still no answer.  Oh no!  I was feeling very tired already as it had been an extremely long day and I had not had much sleep on the bus from Paraty.  So I set on the floor and tried to get some rest, but it was also cold outside and sitting on the cold floor didn’t help much either.

During the next couple of hours, 2 of her neighbours came out of the house and they must have got a shocked to see an Asian girl sitting on the floor of the lift landing!  Again I explained in my pathetic Portuguese and a lot of English (in the hope that they could understand me) that I had been locked out, and that am not some beggar taking shelter on their common corridor.

After much silence, I heard footsteps from Melissa’s apartment and the unlocking of a door.  Melissa was in her PJs and had a sleepy and shocked look on her face as she opened the door.

I was equally shocked because I had rang the door so many times with no answer and all this while she was in the house sleeping, and yet pleased because I could finally head to bed and get some rest!

What a night!
