The moment I got into Salta, my first reaction was “WOAH! It is really hot here!”. For a moment I felt like I was in a desert with the dry heat!
It took me a while to settle down and also to avoid the heat, before deciding to head out to explore the city.
San Bernado Hill
San Bernado Hill is a renowned spot for getting the best view of the city. The most convenient way of getting to the top was via the teleferico (cable car).
The cable car ride took about 10 mins to reach the top and not only did it have great views of the city, it was extremely well landscaped with beautiful gardens and waterfalls.
A great place to seek refuge from the heat! I started feeling really drained perhaps from the hot weather, and felt like I was about to be coming down with a flu! So decided that I will stay there for the next couple of hours to relax, recharge and wait for the sun to set before heading back towards town.
St Francisco Church and Convent
This church extremely stands out in the town because of its colour as well as the architecture and the height of its bell tower. It was declared National Historical Monument in 1941.
Plaza 9 de Julio
Plaza 9 de Julio is the main square of the city. I felt like I was in Spain when I stepped into this square. It had a big statue in the middle of a garden of the square and with colonial architecture buildings surrounding the square, and some outdoor cafes.
Key Buildings in this square includes the Basilic Cathedral of Salta and Historical Museum of the North.
Bustling Streets of Salta
The city centre in Salta is one of the most bustling cities I have seen so far in South America for a small town! Few long streets and markets with rows of shops selling clothes, shoes, travel agents, pharmacies etc. lined after one another and there are lots of people! Good vibes!
I definitely like this city!
